DVIR Process Comfort Level – What’s yours?

As we conducted research in preparation for creating our Electronic Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (EDVIR) module, it became apparent that fleets weren’t as comfortable with their current paper DVIR process management as they wanted to be. As we proceeded with testing our solution, we found that the maintenance shop got very excited with the realization that they would now be seeing DVIR’s electronically and real time as opposed to one of a 3-part copy in an inbox at ‘some point’ after the trip completed. The fact that they are automatically and electronically stored for the required timeframe has brightened the face of more than one maintenance manager as well.

This month we’ll be releasing our DVIR solution, and all CarrierWeb customers will be able to ‘turn on’ DVIR functionality at no additional charge. Having a real time maintenance screen, that shows reported DVIR Defects and whether they’ve been cleared or not is a big hit we’ve found. Our testers also report appreciating the ‘straight forward, easy to follow ‘format in which we present data to the driver. For our customers who don’t have dedicated maintenance software, the fact that DVIR defects are tied directly to our new integrated maintenance module has been exciting.

One maintenance shop manager was particularly relieved that we were introducing EDVIRs since, in his opinion, ‘We’re losing the ability to write legibly in society!’ Well, maybe, but we can probably agree that as drivers seek to be as productive and efficient as possible – sometimes legibility is not a priority. Our EDVIR makes it easy on everyone with check boxes and an onscreen keyboard to quickly complete this important safety document.

So the question today is, with fleet safety your number one priority, and positive CSA scores a close second (because without the first two you can’t achieve your ultimate goal of profitability), how comfortable are you with your current paper DVIR management process?
